The Story
Team Velocity started as a vision in spring of 2006 for team captain and founder William Mikolajczak. William then pitched his ideas to his brother, Frank Mikolajczak and his best friend Ryan Shea, who then became co-founders of Team Velocity during a golf game at Sterling Country Club. During their 36 hole extravaganza the three men jotted down all of their ideas on their score cards; filling them beyond belief. At the close of the 36 the three men developed a name, TEAM VELOCITY, as well as a color scheme consisting of maroon, black, silver, and white.
In the summer of 2006 Team Velocity competed in their first race, The Montclair Olympic Distance Triathlon which set Velocity off. In the fall of 2007 the logo was established and created by William Mikolajczak who spent a seemingly endless amount of time editing the gazelle to bring it into its final form. In spring of 2007 the team roster was established, which included Dustin Whitlow who was also brought on board as the web master and another co-founder.
Soon after Dustin joined the team the first jerseys and t-shirts were created under the guidelines and design of William Mikolajczak. These jerseys and t-shirts were made in limited numbers. During the summer of 2007 the team added several new additions to their team. Over the summer Team Velocity hit the local racing scene in the Virginia / Maryland / Washington D.C. area, where they competed in several local races. The highlight of the summer took place on Quantico Marine Base where a record amount of team members competed in the Semper Fit 15k and brought home numerous awards including the team’s first overall champion award which went to Dustin. In the spring of 2008 the logo was created digitally by Will and the team’s website was built by Dustin. Both of these advances were put in place just in time for the summer racing season. To date, Team Velocity is still actively searching for athletes to join the team.
